An Overview of Foamed concrete

Foamed concrete:

Foam concrete could also be a special kind of porous concrete, which is extremely workable, lightweight, and low-density material and it can incorporate up to 50% entrained air. it's produced by cement, water, and air pores (no need of coarse aggregates).

It is also mentioned as foamed concrete, porous concrete, aerated concrete, lightweight concrete etc. this sort of concrete is self-leveling, self-compacting, and may be easily pumped. The density of foamed concrete can differ from 400 kg/m3 to 1600 kg/m3.

Foam concrete are often utilized in :

  • Insulating lightweight concrete production.
  • Lightweight blocks and panels.
  • Partitions wall.
  • Prefabricated buildings.
  • Heat and sound insulating.
  • Pipelines etc.

Advantages

  • Foam concrete is extremely economical, it are often produced at very low cost.
  • It is a durable material like rock and it's deterioration time is extremely small.
  • This sort of concrete has thermal insulation properties.
  • It's fire resistant.
  • Transportation is extremely easy and may be pumped.
  • It's environment-friendly.

Disadvantages

  • Presence of water in the mixed material make the foam concrete very sensitive
  • Difficulty in finishing
  • Time of mixing longer
  • With the increase in density, the compressive strength and flexural strength decreases.
